Our History

Elmdale Elementary was built in 1965.  Mr. Orien Dodd was the principal from 1965 to 1971.  Then, Ms. Mildred Vescolani was principal from 1971 - 1972. The principal who followed was Mr. Robert Reed, he was principal from 1972 to 1977.  Mr. Don Johnson was principal from 1977 to 2009, he was at Elmdale for 32 years. Ms. Hutton is the current principal of Elmdale Elementary; she began in 2009.  During the 1976 - 1977 school year students had the opportunity to vote for a school logo.  This class chose the Elmdale Eagle that we still have today.  Our school colors then became red and blue.

We celebrated our 50th Anniversary during the 2015-2016 school year.  Past students, faculty members, parents, and community members attended.  They had the opportunity to tour our building and see all of our new facilities.  Elmdale originally had 18 classrooms. In 1966, 12 new classrooms were added.  In June 1970 Elmdale was hit by a tornado.  The building was damaged and endured some flooding.  The classrooms built in 1966 were damaged.  Due to this damage, the 12 classrooms were renovated.  Other renovations included a new roof, windows for the entire building and a fresh coat of paint.  The Springdale School District was able to do all renovations in time for school to open August 31, 1970.  In 1993 the Elmdale PTA provided funds for us to build a mini gym,  Our mini gym was dedicated to Mr. Don Johnson, the principal and Mrs. Lois Lester, the assistant principal.

In 2003 Elmdale's population had grown and a new addition was built, which included 6 additional classrooms and two restrooms.  In 2015 the district added a new library media center.  Our new Library Media Center was dedicated to Ms. Kathy McFetridge.  Ms. McFetridge had been a partner with Elmdale for many years.  Her children attended Elmdale, she was a PTA board member, and a long time Springdale School District school board member,

In 2015 Ms. Mary Miller our district health coordinator initiated a grant which provided the funds to open the doors to the Elmdale Wellness Center.  Our Wellness Center is available to all Elmdale families and our community.  In 2016 our cafeteria was expanded and the facade was updated.  We have an amazing school building with dedicated staff members, and outstanding students and families.  Come check us out, we welcome everyone!
